Hire Terms & Conditions.

Hire period is for 6 days, Thursday - Wednesday, excluding Mondays when the gallery is closed.

Hire cost is $1000 (including GST) per allotment of  six day periods + $500 bond .

Allotments can be booked back-to-back for longer exhibitions at $1000 per six day period, however only one bond will need to be paid.

Payment of the $500 bond and signing of the hire agreement secures the space for the booking period.

Bond is retained by the gallery if the exhibition is canceled less than one month prior to its opening date.

For cancellations more than one month out from the opening date, 50% of the bond ($250) is retained by the gallery.

The hire fee of $1000 must be paid in full two weeks prior to the exhibition opening date.

If no unreasonable damage is incurred to the hire space during the exhibition, the $500 bond is returned after bump out of all works and associated materials.

Any works or materials left in the gallery for more than 48hrs after the close of an exhibition will become the property of The Art Centre of Sydney and may be disposed of.

The gallery recommends using the available track hanging system or any other removable and none permanent form of hanging artworks.

No nailing or drilling into the walls or other surfaces of the gallery is allowed. Any excessive damage to walls or surfaces, including flooring,  may result in bond being retained.

Any works that could potentially pose a danger to the gallery or the public will be refused exhibition.

Any work that is unreasonably offensive or potentially damaging to the gallery’s reputation will be refused exhibition.

Public Liability...

The Art Centre of Sydney has its own public liability but this does not cover damage to any works brought into the hire space or any injury to people that artworks my incur. Though it is not a prerequisite  for hiring of the space, we strongly encourage all exhibiting artists to obtain their own public liability insurance.

Timeline for every exhibition...

  • Payment of bond and signing of agreement to secure hire.
  • Payment of full hire fee two weeks from exhibition opening date.
  • Exhibition bump in of all works and materials on the Thursday morning (the first day of hire)
  • All opening night events to occur on Thursday evenings, 6pm - 9pm, the first official day of the exhibition.
  • Bump out of exhibition to occur on Wednesdays (the last day of hire) with all unsold artworks and material to be removed no later than 7pm that evening, being mindful that another exhibition will likely be bumping in the next day.
  • If there is no unreasonable damage to the hire space (including stairs, main gallery entry and rear lane entry) the full bond will be refunded.

Opening night...

As we are a licensed venue and have a full bar on the ground floor, no other alcohol is to be brought in and served. During an opening night event, all alcoholic beverages will be charged at happy hour rates. Coffee and tea is also available for purchase.

Some bar snacks are also available for purchase but artists are welcome to organise a small amount of catering at their own cost and clean up.

Point Of Sale...

The Art Centre of Sydney has an established point of sale (POS) system and is the most convenient way to handle any purchases on opening night and throughout your exhibition. Every point of sale transaction incurs a 1.9% fee. As we do not take commission on works sold during a hire  space exhibition, artists will receive their full nominated sale price for each work minus the sales fee. All sales collected during a hire space exhibition will be transferred to the artist's nominated account following the close of the exhibition.

Other spaces in the Art Centre...

It should be noted that several other activities may be occurring in the Art Centre during your exhibition such as art classes and general activities in the street level gallery. Artists using the hire space should be mindful and respectful of all other activities happening in the greater Art Centre in regard to excessive noise from guests or music.
