Hire Terms & Conditions.
Hire period is for 6 days, Wednesday - Tuesday, excluding Mondays when the gallery is closed.
Payment upfront secures the space for the booking period.
For cancellations more than one month out from the opening date, 50% of the bond is retained by the gallery.
Any works or materials left in the gallery for more than 48hrs after the close of an exhibition will become the property of The Art Centre of Sydney and may be disposed of.
The gallery recommends using the available track hanging system or any other removable and none permanent form of hanging artworks.
No nailing or drilling into the walls or other surfaces of the gallery is allowed. Any excessive damage to walls or surfaces, including flooring, may result in penalties charges.
Any works that could potentially pose a danger to the gallery or the public will be refused exhibition.
Any work that is unreasonably offensive or potentially damaging to the gallery’s reputation will be refused exhibition.
Public Liability...
The Art Centre of Sydney has its own public liability, but this does not cover damage to any works brought into the hire space or any injury to people that artworks may incur. Though it is not a prerequisite for hiring of the space, we strongly encourage all exhibiting artists to obtain their own public liability insurance.
Timeline for every exhibition....
- Payment of full hire to secure exhibition space.
- Exhibition bump in of all works and materials on the Wednesday morning.
- Opening night are encouraged on the Thursday night between 6pm and 8pm to best promote the exhibition before the weekend.
- Bump out of exhibition to occur on Tuesdays (the last day of hire) with all unsold artworks and material to be removed no later than 7pm that evening, being mindful that another exhibition will likely be bumping in the next day.
Opening night...
As we are a licensed venue and have a full bar on the ground floor, no other alcohol is to be brought in and served. During an opening night event, all alcoholic beverages will be charged.
Some bar snacks are also available for purchase but artists are welcome to organise a small amount of catering at their own cost and clean up.
Point Of Sale...
The Art Centre of Sydney has an established point of sale (POS) system and is the most convenient way to handle any purchases on opening night and throughout your exhibition. Every point of sale transaction incurs a 1.9% fee. As we do not take commission on works sold during a hire space exhibition, artists will receive their full nominated sale price for each work minus the sales fee. All sales collected during a hire space exhibition will be transferred to the artist's nominated account following the close of the exhibition, minusthe Gallery consignment percentage of 20% of all artworks sales.
Other spaces in the Art Centre...
It should be noted that several other activities may be occurring in the Art Centre during your exhibition such as art classes and general activities in the street level gallery. Artists using the hire space should be mindful and respectful of all other activities happening in the greater Art Centre in regard to excessive noise from guests or music.
